Crossrail to be greener than expected
It looks as if the proposed Crossrail project across London will give new meaning to the term ‘green tunnelling’. Spoil that is excavated from the project could be used to create a large wildlife habitat to the east of the capital in Essex, under new proposals masterminded by Faber Maunsell/Aecom and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

Infrastructure investment key to economic recovery, says AEM

Hallandsås beset by more problems
Unforeseen complications with rock and water conditions have added even further costs and delays to the troubled Hallandsås tunnel project. Swedish railway admini-stration body Banverket announced last month that the project would be ready for traffic in 2015, not in 2012 as originally planned.

NEW software developed at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) in the US can give engineers a detailed view of rock that is encountered during a tunnel excavation thereby it is claimed increasing safety on the project. ROYAL Assent has been granted to Crossrail the east-west rail link that is expected to add around 10% to London’s public transport capacity and thereby provide a major boost for London’s rail infrastructure. Bilfinger sues for damages on Vancouver tunnel contract
BILFINGER Berger the German company that is boring the twin 7km-long tunnels on the Seymour- Capilano water filtration plant is suing Metro Vancouver claiming that it is owed over US$22 million in unpaid invoices as a result of the regional government cancelling the project without proper reason in May.

Robbins doubles efforts on Delhi metro, advances in New York City
ROBBINS recently delivered the second of two MHI EPB tunnel boring machines (TBM) to excavate a new set of tunnels for the Delhi metro extension on which a total of 14 TBMs are being deployed. The two 6.5m-diameter Robbins machines have been built at the company’s facilities in China from parts designed and manufactured in a cooperative effort with MHI in Japan China and the US.
