One of two 6.3m-diameter EPB TBMs from Robbins has been launched to excavate Lot 12 of Guangzhou’s Guang-Fo line.
The machines are being launched from a common 16m-deep shaft, with each tunnel being bored in two sections between stations, totalling around 2.6km in length. Parallel tunnels will be bored to connect the three stations of Jushu, Xilang, and Hedong.

ROYAL Assent has been granted to Crossrail the east-west rail link that is expected to add around 10% to London’s public transport capacity and thereby provide a major boost for London’s rail infrastructure. This follows Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s announcement last year of a US$32 billion funding package for the scheme.

WARSAW city officials got a shock recently when bids for the city’s second metro line came in at over double what had been expected. Instead of the anticipated US$1.4 billion the actual bids ranged between US$2.8 billion and US$3 billion.

Bilfinger sues for damages on Vancouver tunnel contract
BILFINGER Berger the German company that is boring the twin 7km-long tunnels on the Seymour- Capilano water filtration plant is suing Metro Vancouver claiming that it is owed over US$22 million in unpaid invoices as a result of the regional government cancelling the project without proper reason in May.

CFE awarded Delft rail tunnell
BELGIAN construction and services group CFE – part of the Combinatie Cromme Lijn joint venture – says it and its partners have been awarded the first phase of a US$557 million rail tunnel project in Delft Holland. Its partners include Dura Vermeer and Haverkort Voormolen TBI Infra.

Robbins doubles efforts on Delhi metro, advances in New York City
ROBBINS recently delivered the second of two MHI EPB tunnel boring machines (TBM) to excavate a new set of tunnels for the Delhi metro extension on which a total of 14 TBMs are being deployed. The two 6.5m-diameter Robbins machines have been built at the company’s facilities in China from parts designed and manufactured in a cooperative effort with MHI in Japan China and the US.

MWH appointed on Pakistani hydroelectric project
COLORADO-based environmental engineering and construction services provider MWH has been selected by Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority to provide engineering and construction management on the US$2.2 billion Neelum-Jhelum hydroelectric project in Pakistan.
