Athens tunnel symposium gears up for March 2012

The Greek Tunnelling Society, with the endorsement of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association (ITA-AITES), is organising a two-day international symposium on ‘Practices and Trends for Financing and Contracting Tunnels and Underground Works’.
The symposium, to be held in Athens, Greece, on March 22-23, will focus on:
• Financing trends, options and choices for underground works
• Contract types for underground works
• Influence of the financial crisis and the consequences for underground construction
• Best practice in contract design for underground works
• Current practice in contract procurement and implementation
Talks will be given by Arnold Dix, Martin Knights, Joseph Huse, Robert Galler, Heinz Ehrbar, George Kolivas and Sergios Lampropoulos.
Presentations will also be given by the European Investment Bank (EIB), EU financing institutions, banks, insurance companies, representatives from the national ITA members and individuals.
EIB will be represented by personnel from the projects directorate/mobility section who will cover technical and contractual issues, while representatives from the operations directorate (tbc) will cover financing.
