British Precast, the trade body for the UK concrete products industry, has started to prepare a new specification for precast tunnel and shaft linings. The work is being coordinated by Dr Hafiz Elhag on behalf of four member companies: Morgan Est, Buchan Concrete Solutions, F P McCann and Tarmac Building Products.
Dr Elhag told World Tunnelling: “BS 8500 Concrete [Complementary British Standard to BS EN 206-1] is more geared to in-situ concrete. A new specification is needed as there is currently much [specification] information available on in-situ concrete linings but very little on pre-cast tunnel segments.” The new specification is expected to be made available in the autumn. Contact hafiz.elhag@britishprecast.org for further details.
